Why 'Time for Turkey' doesn't mean going shopping

Posted by Maria Val Loureda on Friday, October 24, 2014, In : Booking systems

TIME FOR TURKEY

November, and therefore Christmas, is nearly upon us. Hold the groans and pass the chestnuts! The shops are already resplendent in their Christmas livery, advertising  the usual festive offers and that should include every Hotel and Apartment business.

I am not talking about paper chains in the lobby or a 10 foot high stuffed Rudolf’s on the front lawn, although they have a place and maybe your website could do with some tinsel. No, I am talking about Christmas deals (or ...

Channels do we care – yes we should!

Posted by JK on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, In : Booking systems

Booking.com is looking at Parks with lodges, pods and statics and is interested in adding them to their listings. No doubt other currently hotel oriented sites will follow. We have experience of just how much adding Booking.com can have on a parks business, it can be huge and must not be ignored. With 400,000 bookings daily and almost half the UK hotel market these guys are a force to be acknowledged.

I have heard that the park market is reluctant to move into channels. In part this has been d...

OTA's are driving up hotel prices according to The Good Hotel Guide

Posted by Richard Thomas on Friday, October 11, 2013, In : Booking systems
According to the 2014 edition of the Good Hotel Guide, online travel agents (OTA's) are driving up hotel prices as guests are paying "hundreds of millions of pounds" in commission charges.

While these OTA's charge commissions (and in some cases at high levels) in our experience a good OTA can have a significant positive impact on turnover and profitability, as these companies have a marketing reach that the independent hotelier could not dream of attaining.

However, as with most things, a balan...

Does 4G matter to your hotel or holiday park

Posted by Maria Val Loureda on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, In : Booking systems
You've probably heard of it, but what is 4G?
In short, it's the name given to the fourth generation of mobile networks, just as the previous generation is called 3G. 4G aims to offer users faster, more reliable mobile broadband internet for devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Loosely speaking, 4G is around five times faster than existing 3G services.

What does this mean in practice? The faster speeds mean websites load quicker, and that you'll be able to stream videos and podcasts...

Posted by JK on Monday, January 14, 2013, In : Booking systems

Social media has been touted as having an increasingly important role in many aspects of the hospitality industry, including guest satisfaction and process improvement. However, one of the more intriguing aspects of social media is the potential to move markets by driving consumers’ purchasing ...

Of course, there is an ulterior motive for releasing the data – TripAdvisor wants hoteliers to use the site more – but there are some interesting trends which it has pulled out.

A small increase in the number of reviews attracts more attention from travellers – p...

Posted by Maria Val Loureda on Monday, October 22, 2012, In : Booking systems
Almeira has recently launched a flat rate fee for the market-leading STAAH Booking Engine and Channel Manager.

From only £49 per month property owners can enjoy the full online benefits of this renowned solution.

Booking.com market share hits 55%

Posted by Maria Val Loureda on Monday, October 22, 2012, In : Booking systems
Booking.com dominates the European online travel market with 55% market share (source HotelNewsNow.com) and over 226,000 hotels within its listings.

The phenomenal growth has been achieved in just 7 years since parent company Priceline acquired the Amsterdam based business and paired it with Active Hotels.

Linking to Booking.com is considered a "must" by industry revenue management experts - any accommodation providers not listing on Booking.com are missing out on a major revenue stream.

Why On-line booking isn't really optional

Posted by JK on Friday, January 27, 2012, In : Booking systems

Well as someone who spends a lot of time talking to accommodation providers, I have to say the same reasons for operators not providing on-line booking on their website keep coming up. And you know what most people miss – customer service.

I was presenting to a group the other day and I used the following example to demonstrate the value of online booking to a potential guest:

I said ‘can you imagine you’ve gone to th...
