New Zealand’s largest hotel groups, Heritage Hotels, goes live with STAAH

One of New Zealand’s largest hotel groups, Heritage Hotels, has joined the growing list of clients utilising STAAH booking engine platform.

"We are delighted to announce that the Heritage Hotel Group has joined STAAH’s client list for our booking system which once again illustrates the high demand it has from leading hotels and motels," said STAAH’s Head of Sales Edwin Saldanha.

“Heritage selected STAAH as the required partner to produce our booking engine as they demonstrated the flexibility to meet our user journey requirements” says Tony Howlett, General Manager Sales & Marketing of Heritage Hotel Management.

The collaborative work between STAAH and Heritage resulted in a booking engine which is one of the few available to provide a group solution. It enables multiple hotel bookings as part of the same transaction and allows guests to book an entire travel itinerary. This was a key criteria, of Heritage with 21 hotels throughout New Zealand.

There are a number of other unique advantages that make this product a stand out.

STAAH assisted in customisation of their booking engine design to enable a seamless user experience. Other features include; package imagery and Add-on Extras. The customised display allows the guests to know exactly what they are receiving in their booking. The booking engine is mobile-friendly and PCI-certified to process online payments.

Internally a single systems for booking engine and channel management has streamlined the reservation team’s workload at each property. The majority of properties already have two-way connections between STAAH and their property management system (PMS) with the remainder to roll out in the near future.

Future developments currently underway include releasing a DPS payment gateway, enhanced calendar view option and features for corporate travel bookers including ‘remember me’.

Channels do we care – yes we should!

Booking.com is looking at Parks with lodges, pods and statics and is interested in adding them to their listings. No doubt other currently hotel oriented sites will follow. We have experience of just how much adding Booking.com can have on a parks business, it can be huge and must not be ignored. With 400,000 bookings daily and almost half the UK hotel market these guys are a force to be acknowledged.

I have heard that the park market is reluctant to move into channels. In part this has been due to the lack of effective channels previously available. And dare I say a degree of reluctance to embrace technology.

Not signing up with channels strikes me a defensive posture, unless you believe you can obtain the required occupancy through the marketing of one’s own proposition through one’s own website, at an acceptable cost.

I really doubt this will be the way the market will operate in the future.

The scale of market access by Booking.com and the like, means they have a share of access to customers that trust them, and want to book through them. A park will not get that business, unless they are listed where customers are looking and booking, and that, like hotels, will be a variety of channels.
Things are changing; change is an opportunity for sales, not for putting up resistance.

Why 'Time for Turkey' doesn't mean going shopping

November, and therefore Christmas, is nearly upon us. Hold the groans and pass the chestnuts! The shops are already resplendent in their Christmas livery, advertising the usual festive offers and that should include every Hotel and Apartment business.

I am not talking about paper chains in the lobby or a 10 foot high stuffed Rudolf’s on the front lawn, although they have a place and maybe your website could do with some tinsel. No, I am talking about Christmas deals (or packages). I say deals because increasingly people are shopping accommodation by deals – what they can get for their money.

MAKE IT EASY FOR YOUR CUSTOMER TO FIND THE DEAL THAT SUITS THEM.

Have you thought of grouping together deals by room type? So if you have a 2 night stay with Christmas lunch or a deal with evening meal lunch and drinks (maybe a 3 day break) make these deals easy to see. So under a heading such as “Double Room” list the deals that relate to that room. It makes it easy for your customers to find the packages that make them want to book with you.
